What we believe.
What We Believe and Why It Matters
Neighbor is not built on vibes, preferences, personalities, or cultural trends.
We are grounded in historic Christian faith, shaped by Scripture, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and centered on Jesus Christ.
We believe theology is not meant to impress people, it is meant to form people. And we believe no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
Neighbor will always be a place for the hurting, the searching, the skeptical, and those finding their way back to God.
These anchors do not exist to keep people out. They exist to help us faithfully point people to Jesus.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the authoritative witness to God’s redemptive work in the world.Scripture is trustworthy in what it teaches and is God’s primary means of revealing Himself and forming His people. We do not use Scripture to control, shame, or win arguments. We read it to be shaped, corrected, encouraged, and transformed. The Bible is not a weapon to wield, it is a story we are invited to live into.Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 119:105
We believe there is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.God is holy, loving, just, merciful, and worthy of all worship. He is the Creator of all things, the source of all life, and the One through whom all things find their purpose.Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully human. He is not merely a moral teacher, spiritual guide, or inspiring example. Jesus is Lord.Through His life, death, resurrection, and promised return, Jesus reconciles us to God, frees us from the power of sin and death, and invites us into the life of His Kingdom.Jesus does not simply inform us.He calls us to follow Him.We do not merely admire Jesus, we submit our lives to Him.Scripture: John 1:1–14, Colossians 1:15–20, Philippians 2:5–11, 1 Corinthians 15:3–8
We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God and actively at work today. The Spirit convicts, comforts, empowers, guides, transforms, and equips believers for everyday life and ministry. We believe the Christian life was never meant to be lived apart from the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. We unapologetically desire to be a Spirit-led church. That means we seek God’s leading in prayer, expect the Spirit to speak through Scripture, believe He empowers His people for ministry, and remain open to His work in our lives today. At the same time, we believe the Spirit never contradicts Scripture and is not measured by emotional experiences alone. We are not driven by hype, trends, or personalities. We desire to be both spiritually alive and biblically grounded.Dependent on the Spirit.Anchored in Scripture.Scripture: John 14:16–17, Acts 1:8, Romans 8:14, 1 Corinthians 12, Galatians 5:22–25
We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace received through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn God’s favor through good works, religious performance, or personal effort.Through Jesus we are forgiven, reconciled to God, adopted into His family, and made new.Salvation is not only a moment—it is a journey of transformation. We are saved by grace and formed through obedience.Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–10, Romans 5:1–11, Titus 3:4–7
We believe every person is created in the image of God and possesses inherent dignity, value, and worth. We also believe sin is real.Sin distorts our relationship with God, with others, and with ourselves.Sin is not merely brokenness to manage—it is rebellion that requires repentance and restoration.Jesus meets us with grace and calls us into transformation.Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, 2 Corinthians 5:17
We believe following Jesus means learning to live as He lived through the power of the Holy Spirit.Discipleship is more than information. It is transformation.More than belief. It is obedience.More than attendance. It is apprenticeship to Jesus. We believe spiritual formation happens through Scripture, prayer, community, worship, generosity, service, and everyday faithfulness.Belonging is the beginning.Formation is the goal.Scripture: Matthew 28:18–20, Luke 9:23, Romans 12:1–2
We believe the Church is the people of God, united through faith in Jesus Christ. The Church is not a building, brand, personality, or event. The Church exists to worship God, form disciples, love neighbors, and bear witness to the Kingdom of God.Gathered worship matters.Everyday faithfulness matters just as much. The Church is most alive when faith is practiced where life actually happens. As instructed by Jesus at the end of His ministry on earth, the Church brings His teachings to all nations, teaching them and baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Scripture: Acts 2:42–47, Ephesians 4:11–16, 1 Peter 2:9–10
We believe following Jesus shapes every part of life. Faith is not something we practice for an hour on Sunday; it is a way of life. As followers of Jesus, we are called to become people marked by love, humility, integrity, holiness, generosity, compassion, forgiveness, and faithfulness. We believe these qualities are not produced by willpower alone, but through a life surrendered to Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we pursue rhythms that form us into the likeness of Christ, including prayer, Scripture, worship, community, generosity, service, and everyday obedience. Spiritual maturity is not measured merely by what we know, but by who we are becoming. We believe our faith should be visible in the way we love, serve, forgive, and treat people—especially those who are different from us and those who can offer us nothing in return. Following Jesus changes the way we live, and it changes the way we love our neighbors.Scripture: Micah 6:8, Matthew 22:37–39, John 13:34–35, Romans 12:9–21, Galatians 5:22–23, Colossians 3:12–17
We believe grace and truth are not opposites. Grace without truth becomes permissive. Truth without grace becomes cruel. Jesus embodied both perfectly. Neighbor seeks to hold this same tension with conviction, humility, and love.Scripture: John 1:14, Ephesians 4:15
The Scriptures teach that the marriage covenant shall be reserved only for one man with one woman, as God designed each of them in the womb for lifetime. God decided that man should not be alone and specifically fashioned the woman as the suitable helper for the man, made the woman from part of the man and in the woman made the man complete, designed sexual union to be with a husband cleaving to his wife as one flesh, bestowed His divine blessings upon the unity of a man and a woman, gave the man and the woman the ability to fulfill His charge to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. The Lord designate d specific duties for the holy unity between a man and a woman, instructing the husband to love his wife as Christ love d the Church and gave Himself up for her, and instructing the wife to be subject to the husband in every thing and to submit to him as unto the Lord. No othe relationship can ever be the holy unity between one man and one woman established by the Creator, which the Apostle Paul compare d to the holy unity of Christ and the Church, and man has no authority to alter the divine order of themarriage covenant between one man and one woman, or to separate what God has joined together.
God has appointed a day when He will judge the world. On that day, God will demonstrate His mercy by eternal salvation in Heaven for all who have placed their faith in Christ for salvation, and His justice by eternal damnation in Hell for those who have rejected God’s free gift of salvation in Christ.
We hold these beliefs with conviction and humility. We welcome questions. We make room for wrestling. We believe growth takes time. But we are not neutral about truth. We are open-handed on secondary matters and firm-handed on essential ones.
